Parliament Backs Bill to Put Tetum in Justice Sector
DILI – Timor-Leste’s Council of Ministers have backed a controversial bill to increase the use of Tetum language in official justice proceedings, moving to a bilingual landscape inclusive of existing Portuguese.
The decree, supported on January 17, is prioritized to areas where citizens interact with the Justice sector on a regular basis including registry and notary services, land and property, the Public Defenders Office and the Police.
