On 12 October 35 MPs from opposition parties—namely the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT), People’s Liberation Party (PLP), and KHUNTO— declared themselves a Parliamentary Majority Alliance (AMP).
In a letter sent to President Francisco Guterres, that same day, the AMP said they were ready to form an alternative government that ensures "peace, stability and development."
“Today we are just one, there is no more PLP, CNRT, and KHUNTO but now we are one in AMP,’’ Ruak said during speech at PLP’s national conference on Saturday.
The AMP has argued the current minority government is unconstitutional and its program’s new policy does not address the country’s development problems.
Ruak said the Fretilin-led government had failed to clarify the objectives of its program.
The comments come after the government’s program has been voted down in national parliament raising about stalling of State projects.
Matias Boavida, spokesperson for the government, said the 2017 government budget had been approved Council of Ministers and would be submitted to National Parliament.
“The rest of 2017’s budget will be spent based on population’s necessity,” Boavida said.
Boavida called on opposition parties to collaborate with it and approve the budget, saying it was Timorese people who were suffering as an affect of the stalls.
Boavida said the government was ready to hold a new election to let the people of Timor-Leste decide on leadership.
