As the official presidential campaign reaches its final week, rounding out Friday March 17, Rui Maria de Araújo warned conflict had no place in nation’s democracy.
“On behalf of the FRETILIN‘s party I wish to calls the supporters to quite calm and peace because on 17 we have a big mobilization in Dili City so calls to all supporter to respect the traffic light don’t make the provocation to each other because we will not win something from the conflict and violence,’’ Araújo said Friday.
The call comes as the President of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak, urged the eight presidential candidates to retain his legacy and be a president for all Timorese people.
Ruak said visiting remote villages and listening to all people was integral, saying too many politicians visited villages only to canvas votes.
“The President of the Republic must visit the villages on behalf of the state to see how decisions affect them, their opinions and how we can help them,”
In his presidency Ruak visited 12 municipalities, 65 sub-municipalities, 442villages andover 2000 sub-villages.
Timor-Leste’s presidential election will take place 20 March.
