DILI: Ongoing back and forth coalition talks between the Fretilin party and other political parties, have forced the inauguration of Timor-Leste’s seventh government to be postponed until September 5.

The announcement made in parliament on Sunday comes five weeks after Timorese voted in their nation’s parliamentary election.

The July 22 vote saw the Fretilin take a narrow majority win of 29.7

per cent of votes, falling short of winning the 33 seats needed in the 65-seat parliament for it to rule alone.

Since then the party has engaged in lengthy coalition talks with National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT), Timor-Leste’s second most powerful political force and minor parties the People‘s Liberation Party (PLP) and new youth party KHUNTO, in order to gain majority power.
