Speaking at the National Fretilin Conference in Dili on Saturday, where he spoke of his future as Head of State, he said: “Some people say that I must separate with my party but its difficult because it is where I come from.”

Lu-Olo spoke of his ability to separate his position as president and involvement with the Fretilin political party.

 Mari Alkatiri, the Secretary General of Fretilin Party, said while Lu-Olo would not be working for Fretilin party he would maintain his role as President of Fretilin party when he was inaugurated as President of the Republic on May 20.
