DILI: Moving to prevent introduction of the Delta COVID-19 variant, Timor-Leste said on Friday it would impose five day mandatory quarantine on all travellers coming from countries where the highly transmittable variant has been detected.

Previously COVID-19 vaccinated visitors did not need to quarantine upon entry.
“Any person who has not received the complete vaccination and coming through countries identified the types of Delta SARS-CoV-2 should comply with the quarantine five days. Failure to receive vaccination continues to comply with quarantine 14 days,” said the government in a press release.
The decision came as the Council of Ministers also voted to renew Timor-Leste’s state of emergency to July 31.
Under the existing rules all citizens living in Timor-Leste must maintain at least one metre distance between people, wear a face mask and wash their hands when entering commercial, industrial or public administration building and avoid group training on public roads, the statement said..
Also approved was the maintenance of sanitary fences in municipalities of Baucau and Dili for another seven days.
“Therefore, the movement of people between the municipalities of Baucau and Dili and other Administrative districts is prohibited, except in cases of strong reason for public security, public health, humanitarian assistance, maintenance of public supply systems or other reasons of public interest.”
People who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and children under the age of six are exempt from the travel restrictions.
Timor-Leste currently has 925 active COVID-19 cases, a reported 9,512 cases since the start of the pandemic and 25 deaths.
