DILI: The Timor-Leste Central Bank has issued a warning to people not to invest in an online business venture, Talk Fusion, with the United States-based company increasingly pushing into the local market.

Talk Fusion is an online business that credits itself with providing promotion assistance to small businesses. It sells online packages from USD$125-$1500, claiming it can bring customers to businesses.

The company had been operating illegally in Timor-Leste for over two years attracting more than 3000 local members.

Since its inception 20 years ago by Bob Reina the company has come under widespread scrutiny.

A Facebook site setup under name ‘Talk Fusion Scam and Fraud’ lists hundreds of cases from people around the world saying they had lost money with the company.

Florensio Sanches, the Director for Timor-Leste Business Registration and Verification (SERVE), said Talk Fusion was illegally collecting money from Timorese people.

“We have met them and asked them to submit their document for getting the license but they didn’t come and said they had no need to get a legal license because they were an International Company,’’ Sanches said on Thursday.

He called on Timorese people to not invest money in the company and urged the State to ensure the company was removed.

Under the Law Article 31, 5/2011 SERVE and the Timor-Leste Central Bank has power to regulate financial players in the local market.

Article 26 and 27 from decree law 31/2009 states all international companies must register activities with SERVE and their respective embassies to operate in Timor-Leste.

“This company has not done any of these things,” Sanches said.
