The President of the Alliance for Progressive Change (AMP) party rejected claims from civil society groups saying an early election was needed to better define party vision.
He urged voters to consider what is best for their country when they vote on May 12, saying having coalition government was the only way to avoid another election.
Timorese parliament has been frozen since Fretilin Party was unable to gain parliamentary support for its agenda.
It is the second time in less than ten months Timorese are heading to the polls to vote governing party.
