DILI: The Former National Parliament President Vicente Guterres has been summoned by the District Court to stand trial in September for alleged fraud, parliament insiders have said.

Guterres is accused of allegedly abusing his position of power for personal financial gain.

Antonino Gonçalves, the President of the Magistrate Association, confirmed Guterres had “no claim” to political immunity as he no longer held a position in parliament.

Guterres held the President of National Parliament position from July 2012 to 2016. He is a member of the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT) party.
