DILI:  An outbreak of dengue fever continues to claim young lives in Timor-Leste’s capital city of Dili since the start of December last year, as authorities urge people to help them destroy mosquito breeding grounds.

The Ministry of Health on Tuesday said two more children had died in Dili alone, bringing the country’s total dengue death roll to 53 people and raising fears the city is in the midst of its worst dengue outbreak in years.

Health official told the Independente that parents must take their children to authorised medical practitioners before their condition worsened to prevent death.

The mosquito born illness is the suspected cause of death for people in eleven municipalities, including: 33 deaths in Dili, Covalima (7), Ermera )(4), Aileu (2), Viqueque (2), Bobonaro (2), Liquicia (1), Manatutu (1) and RAEOA (1), according to official health data.
