COVID-19: Death Toll in Timor-Leste Rises to Five Featured

DILI: Timor-Leste on Saturday reported its fifth death from COVID-19 and its second highest number of new infections, according to official health data.

The Integrated Centre for Crises Management (CIGC) confirmed in its daily statement, that a 71 year-old woman (identified as Odete da Silva) who had been isolated and receiving treatment at Vera Cruz health clinic, died 2pm Saturday afternoon.

The total number of active COVID-19 cases across the country is now 1,506, bringing total accumulated cases since March 2020 to 3,111.

The victim’s eldest son, Jose Amaral, told the Independente that his family were given permission to conduct a cultural burial in Viqueque by the CIGC.

Amaral said his mother had been in poor health prior to contracting COVID-19, and left behind three children.
